Caring for land, crops, and cattle since 1885.
High Ridge Beef (HRB) is located in the High Ridge precinct of Hayes County, NE. The area is comprised of mainly combination farm and ranch land. This lends itself to an ideal place for cow/calf and feeding operations. The ranch land provides grazing for about five months of the year and crop residue (mainly cornstalks), grain, and hay from the farming side of the operations provide the rest. Several ethanol plants in the area provide distillers byproduct grains as a very palatable protein source. Cattle love it! We joke that if you put distillers byproduct on fence post the cows would eat it too.
Although there are a few very hot days and a few very cold days, typically the climate provides an excellent environment for beef production. Our elevation of 3,100 feet provides the cool nights and lower daytime humidity to reduce the stress on livestock. The average 18" of rainfall results in fewer problems caused by mud in heavier rainfall areas. All these factors work together to provide a low stress environment for the cattle, resulting in efficient production of a quality beef product for customers of HRB.
